zello.......<Fact- animals and the Earth have no intelligence or soul>
Sorry ...That is Not a fact...........problem is ...we do not speak their language.........

This readable introduction to the study of cognition in animals reveals powerful evidence of human-like capacities for perception, thought, and
language in non-human animals, suggesting that the gulf between human and animal consciousness isn't as wide as once believed. James

Dear fellow white male, we have a lot in common. I, too, am the proud father of a beautiful girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. She's a grown lady now, and has enriched my life in many ways. I'm glad that you take your responsibilities seriously; persevere and you will be rewarded beyond your expectations.

Based on your daughter's tender age, I'm assuming you are much younger than I, so please permit an older white male to offer you some advice.

Some investors prefer IDCC to the mighty Q, while others choose LU. Some prefer daytrading to ltb&h, or options to common stock. Those differences in preference spring from the uniqueness of each investor. Those differences make a market.

Some people are ambitions while others live for sport and frolic. Some are monogamous while others seek variety. Some walk the path of religion while others are atheists. Those differences make a society.

It would be presumptuous of you, since your investing experience is limited compared to mine, to tell me which stocks to pick or how long to hold them. It would be even more presumptuous of you to tell me how to conduct my life.

If you have no tolerance for the rights of others to hold different beliefs, you will always alienate rather than influence, and your life companions will be limited to those of identical persuasions to your own.

That's the path you're on right now, son. Is that what you intended?

Zello, glad you're a proud father...a close study of nature shows us to be no different than the rest of life, we have "God given" rights (perhaps rights is the wrong word--capacities) to protect AND to kill, we procreate AND destroy, and we do both, like the rest of nature, from the microbes on up to the chimps and apes so similar to us. The universe is not a moral place, although it may be a place with God, but not a personal God, more like the suchness or isness or beingness of the whole thing. It's easier to understand all the contradictions of life, from holocausts to saints to abortions to adoptions, from a neutral bias.

P.S. and no offense intended, honestly:

Fact - animals and the earth have no intelligence or soul.

How do you know? How is this assumption of superiority, and thus right to kill, any different in its essence than the Nazi assumption about the Jews?

My suggestion would be for consistency--either eat meat AND allow animal experimentation (in the name of medicine) AND allow abortions, OR none of the above. The latter would respect all life as ensouled and adopt a moral stance. Bearing guns, and allowing abortions, are contradictions resolved only by making easy statements like animals have no souls. A close reading of Jane Goodall alone would call that into question.

For car accident and all the questions that raises, Peter Singer addresses the issues well. It gets dicier and dicier as our technology increases, and we are able to preserve those in coma indefinitely, thus changing the "natural" definitions of life and death

Best to you--

Jill

Hi my Missionary friend,

like our dear Uncle says, we are all different. I personally have a little quirk where I look to the depth of conviction of an individual as opposed to what the conviction is.

Proud of your gumption in buying RMBS on the down swing.
