When did Bush publicly state he'd never been arrested?

I was surprised at Bush's remark, during his press conference, about when he quit drinking because he was losing "affections." What's this really mean? My gut response was to not link drinking while driving with "affections." Any folks got theories on that?

By the way, I guess Bush answered an earlier criticism of mine when I complained he hadn't thrown a press conference since the second week of September. He had one yesterday!

In my view, Bush has to be hiding more than a drunk driving charge. He won't even defend his issues or his background before the press. His strategy has been to cruise into election day without talking to the press, appearing only in environments where he gives a speech, handshakes and quickly disappears on to the next stop; or at events organized much like a Pat Robinson evanglical-type event where he rants and raves against his opponent.

In other words, Bush has been doing events which limit and suppress hard questions from the media. Thank God he got stopped for drunk driving and lost his license in the 70's. 'Cause it gave the American public access to him via a pre-election press conference. Really though, the American people deserve better!

So what? 26 years ago and irrelevant to his capacity to govern the nation. I hope all the demolibs make a big deal over this crap because it will be a net positive for Bush. People are tired of the Clinton/Gore smear machine. JLA

I won't surmise if he was trying to keep a public record secret or not. Though I'm not disputing what you say, I don't recall reading where Bush was ever asked that question. Do you have a link?
