hey tc

that's tough having to reformat. but leave it to you to find the positive side. <g> sounds like the little brush with danger i had ( #reply-14644199 ) where i was able to boot to windows via my jaz rescue disks and let norton repair the damage. i sure felt like a genius for having diligently kept up with the updates.

i really wonder what the heck happened with your machine?

:)

tc,

My system got trashed recently and since I run PQ Disk Image I thought I was covered. I couldn't get anything on my C: drive to work, including Drive Image, so I slipped in my floppy and proceeded to run Disk Image from there. I found the backup file, pointed it to the C: drive, and set it all up to restore. Then, on the final keystroke, it failed.

The main executable (PQDI.exe) requires lots of memory, and apparently I didn't have enough. So I had to learn how to load DOS high (I'm still a beginner) and cut down on the stuff I didn't need.

.BIN files had to go, since I don't use DriveSpace, and they get loaded into low memory whether you need them or not.

I put in EMM386.EXE and HIMEM.SYS, and put

DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE
DOS=HIGH,UMB

in the CONFIG.SYS file. And of course system files.

I booted with that, then put in the floppy with PQDI.EXE, and it worked.

I made my original startup floppies on W95 (have W98 now) so even my version of DOS was wrong. Probably you won't have all or any of these problems, but I guess all I'm saying here is be sure your floppies are completely functional before you need to use them.
