One thing this ex-liberal democrat has learned over the years about politics is that many many republicans probably hold the philosphy they have because of experience. I think this fact is totally lost on dem's who ASSUME that they are just dogmatic rich folks. On the flip side, after some family experiences with various government agencies I realized that it was myself [and I assume many liberals] that was very mistaken about effectiveness of them. DAK

Taxes on the working poor make it impossible for them to pay for their health care. Isn't that ironic? You need to do some homework here. What keeps some of the working poor from obtain health insurance is lousy pay from lousier employers who won't provide health care coverage...or certain state governors who won't fullfill their legal committment to provide extended Medicaid and CHIP coverage to those who left welfare for work. There's a similar federal suit against the State of Florida charging that state has improperly denied public health insurance to TANF recipients making the transition. And who is the governor there? Jeb Bush is it? A Republican? Wisconsin has a suit against it for improperly denying Food Stamps to those who are making the transition from welfare to work. Who is the governor there? Tommy Thompson, a Republican. How compassionately conservative of them. This is what the New Federalism under welfare reform brought us. Republican governors who disregard the law (not to mention the welfare of their citizens.) Thankfully those affected can find redress in the federal courts.
