Nov. 4 — The vast majority of likely voters say
George W. Bush’s 24-year-old arrest for
drunken driving is irrelevant to the presidential
race—and almost none of Bush’s supporters say
it could cost him their vote.

Latest Detroit News poll (leading Republican newspaper in Michigan) shows Gore 46 to 41 over Bush. The Dems are really energized and interesting to see Sen Bob Kerry, a true Vietnam war hero and well known Bradley supporter blistering Bush and heaping praise on Gore. He cites Bush's AWOL Vietnam war record vs Gore's enlistment and service in Vietnam and while not attacking Bush for history of drunkenness says hiding behind his kids as cover for failure to disclose arrest record is example of Bush character. Kerry says Bush then has the gall to use character issue against Gore. Bush is some character.

Michigan does not buy Bush character BS and does not want a drunk driving the car, sitting in the back seat in a stupor or sneaking a drink from a bottle hidden in his Oval Office desk while he gazes longingly at the red phone on the desk
searching thru his alcoholic induced haze trying to remember the right number to dial so he can do some nation destroying with the toys he put in the sky.

Not to worry though... the guy gave up his uncontrolled boozing 10 years after his first?, last? arrest???

7% of voters say the DUI and history of alcoholism is importanbt. That isn't nothing in a race this tight. A 1-2% difference is all it takes. Bush running down to Florida shows the election may be won in that state. Bush HAS to have Flroida though Gore could conceivably win without it.
Today's poll showed Gore ahead in Florida by 4% but it is very close. Gore will return to Florida tomorrow.
