I believe Novell called this product "On-Demand" but I have not heard hide nor hair of it for a while. Your statement clarifies why. This is not a good sign. Without this sub-system that can be triggered when an NDS event occurs, an ASP vendor would have to think hard on the value of Novell's solutions for an ASP strategy. In order to make our ASP as cost-effective as possible I need service changes that are controlled by the directory to be reflected automatically in my billing system. I dont care if these service changes were batched up daily or completely online, as long as I can get these events out of NDS to process them for billing.

Related to that is state-management or scanning (i.e. what service is currently set to what customer/seat each month). I am sure a Directory savvy developer could figure this problem out by possibly performing scans on the directory data repository.

I thought Novell was totally commited to driving its technologies into the ASP space. Now it sounds like their ASP commitment is only half hearted.

What happened to the Boston team headed up by Monty Sharma? He and his team were suppose to take the MTT solution and make them solutions for other ASPs. Has Monty and his team left Novell? The ASP strategy sub-team I was talking to did not even know who Monty was. That sure didnt give me a warm feeling as I thought to myself "How could one ASP team not know that another ASP team exists".

RIT, what the heck is going on in Novell? Is Novell pulling back on its initially strong push toward the ASP market? WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE!!! NDS/eDirectory is sooo perfectly suited to the ASP role. Your comments seem to sound that you are sceptical on the ASP offering situation there.

Cheers!
