Gopher Broke: Good question. Here's all I've seen on the firewall issue, from the Nov. 6 Newsweek: "The only question was, could it work smoothly, bypassing firewalls and communications glitches? For five months the team worked at the problem, finally coming up with a magic bullet known as a synchronization algorithm that broke the problem's back" (p. 70). I haven't dug around on the Net yet to see if there's any further explanation of their methodology for delivering services through firewalls.
