It is never false piety to preserve peace. Peace and humanity ought to be the goal- everything else is meaningless without hope of those things. Hoping your God or Gods are true may or may not be pie in the sky- you won't know until you are dead and buried. But Peace and humanity are good NOW.

I understood (I think) why you posted the cognitive dissonance thing (the dissonance being "how can you see a world so complex and not think it implies a designer?")

I was addressing that not only with the evolution quotes, but also with this comment:

The argument from design, or "watchmaker" theory, is understandably
appealing. I compare it to getting the feeling you've cleaned the house by
stuffing all the dirty laundry and papers and other junk that's disturbing
the orderliness of your environment into a closet. "Oh, good, everything's
all neat now!"
