I got to fire a Garand once, I dunno if it was a Winchester or not. That's a no-joke rifle. With a good scope it would be lethal for what.... a mile, you suppose? And heavy enough that you could use it as a club if you ran out of bullets. I didn't care for the clips the Garands use, and they would certainly get heavy to carry around all day. But if you can't have an FN FAL or the like it would sure do. Notice how the gunbanners haven't fixated on Garands, they have wood stocks and no handgrips.

I have a Garand as well. Like JFQ says the clips are not exactly user friendly. Just mastering the skill of loading the damn thing could separate the front line grunts from the mess hall crew. If they have any thumbs left.
