Hi Keith, I was deeply disturbed recently when I found out that an old friend of Jane's and mine has NEVER voted in in her life!

This isn't a dummy, best as I can tell this person has above average IQ and has certainly voiced opinions on various topics over the years. I just don't know what to say to someone that has never voted. I'm dumbfounded.

I believe I've voted in every national election since I came of age. I've not always been the best informed voter on local issues or national ones for that matter. I've usually been a "vote against" type. But not voting at all seems to show a form of fatalism that I don't understand.

Best regards,
tom@getoutthevote.com

Hi,
I've deliberately tried to stay away from political issues here on the thread, but I will happy to answer some of your questions.
I think we are indeed lucky to live in a country where we can vote. Someday we may even be lucky enough to have a viable third party candidate. Here on SI there are people who are always ready to shoot their mouth off on any topic whether they know what they are talking about or not.
I don't feel that anyone who is in prison for any reason should have the privilege of voting. I don't think there is any doubt about the definition of is. Anything that gets more citizens exercising their voting rights is good.
I'm really not happy about either of the candidates, but I'll pulling the lever for "Dubya", maybe only because I live next door to Bud do I feel that I want my president to be as far removed from Clinton as possible. That was one of George W's first promises, "to bring Honor and Dignity back to the office of the President.
