Heinz, you are correct with respect to the consumer photography market. What has hurt Kodak's margins is the migration of professional photographers to digital. Professionals have historically contributed up to 25% of Kodak's sales.

With professional level equipment it is possible to obtain the bandwidth of traditional film. The problem is that, even today, it costs $10,000+ ($20k+ just a couple of years ago) to achieve these results with high end cameras and Mac equipment. Until this cost comes down even more dramatically and can be done on non-Mac platforms, silver based film will dominate the consumer market.

It will be a slow death for Kodak.
