Launched in late September, the "Go Purple" vendor partnering program connects service providers, e-businesses, and large enterprises to an elite class of industry proven and interoperable products that define the next generation of IP networks. For the program, Extreme Networks sought out market leading complementary technology solutions that were tested in their labs for interoperability, and in many cases, already installed in customer sites. "Our 'Go Purple' partner program brings together a select group of vendors who demonstrate leadership in IP-based products to help move customers closer to their objective of a flexible and robust networking architecture," said George Prodan, vice president of worldwide marketing for Extreme Networks. "We are pleased to have Quintum be one of the first members of our 'Go Purple' partner program. With Quintum's technology, our customers can enjoy transparent voice switching featuring Extreme Networks' Policy-Based Quality of Service at wire-speed performance." To demonstrate quality Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities, Quintum's Tenor MultiPath Gateway was tested with Extreme Networks' Gigabit Ethernet switching solutions. The Tenor MultiPath Gateway continuously monitors jitter, packet loss and latency on IP networks to ensure optimum voice call quality. If any deterioration of quality is detected, calls are instantly and transparently routed from the IP network to the PSTN, providing a no risk VoIP solution for service providers. The strategic importance of the testing is reflected in Extreme Networks' vision to replace Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) in the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) with scalable, cost-effective Ethernet technology. Testing consisted of a total of 18 calls between the two PBX switches, which stayed up for 72+ hours. The results proved zero packet loss across the Gigabit link with no calls being dropped and no degradation in voice quality. The test was specifically conducted for customers with PBX switches that are not currently equipped to route traffic over IP, requiring an external H.323 Gateway/Gatekeeper for this functionality. The test confirmed that the Quintum H.323 Gateway is a practical alternative that allows legacy PBX calls to be routed over IP through Extreme Networks' Gigabit Ethernet solution. The test also demonstrated that Extreme Networks' integrated QoS feature works as intended, maintaining higher priority for voice calls than data traffic. Extreme Networks' QoS standards were met with Quintum's TASQ technology, providing failover to the PSTN when bandwidth does not permit a high quality voice call.
