Bottom line: there are inequities, both known and unknown, all around and hopefully, they all offset each other, and the winner, whoever that may be, is the true winner.

How true, and in every election ever held ..
It isn't an issue until we have a situation
such as we have now where the results hinge
on less than 1/2 of 1% of the votes cast ..

As clumsy as our system can be, I still feel
fortunate to be a citizen of the good ole USA ..

I also see no mention of the amazing timeliness of publicizing GW's driving while intoxicated infraction, for which he was fined, from > 20 years ago,

Luckly they didn't use this page taken from a well-worn copy of The Republican's Playbook:

...It matters little what the infraction was nor how many decades ago it occurred, any subsequent and still continuing cover-up, no matter how minor, must be vigorously pursued. This technique almost always successfully raises doubts about the opponents's character. ...

I see no mention of the potential influence of having St. Louis urbanites likely to vote for Gore, allowed to vote past the time when the polls should have been closed.

that's because Bush still took Missouri. If the outcome had gone the other way, you can bet the Republicans would be challenging it.

I also see no mention of the amazing timeliness of publicizing GW's driving while intoxicated infraction, for which he was fined, from > 20 years ago, and the possible influence of this event on some voters.

a) it was true, so it's influence is entirely legit. b) it only could come out so late because the drunk driver in question covered it up for twenty years. c) there's no evidence whatsoever that Gore's campaign had anything to do with the revelation.

In general, though, your bottom line is correct. For the outcome to be reversed (in FL or anywhere), the irregularities would have to be large and consistent (i.e., significantly one-sided), which is unlikely to be the case...

Those idiots in St. Louis! How dare them wait in line starting before the poles closed and expect to be able to vote at pole closing time! What right do they have?

And to think they were probably voting for Gore. That shows how stupid they are. They don't deserve the vote!

You're right, 1% of the vote is nothing. Why not round up or down to the nearest 5% and be done with it?

And about that DUI--how dare those dems get a hold of that information and release it in a timely manner? What business is it of the American people, anyway. Next thing you know someone will be prying into the sex lives of our elected officials!
