Well... and now your self argument has pointed out the fact that a continuum with a single dimension (liberal -- conservative) is an inadequate tool for much political discussion and measurement. The idea that an individual could be as 'socially liberal' as they are 'fiscally conservative' does not mean that they are a 'moderate' since the two would cancel each other out in the 1 dimensional model. What is interesting is the way people, such as yourself, have managed to twist or color the word "liberal" into meaning something horrid. It's become a code word for lurking communism and if you look closer, it is many times used with "media" to point at Jews. I always ask. "So, who are the liberal media?" I usually hear silence. "Liberal" has become a code word for many things that people don't quite have the guts to say in a faux P.C. world while at the same time. rallying the troops
