I don't think the original intent of protecting the voice of small states holds anymore. One argument is that candidates would only concentrate energy on large population centers. But in this election there was scant attention to any state whose EC votes were not seen as in play. If the individual votes in those states would matter, we might have gotten some attention.

In my state we had no tv ads, little mail, and only one very brief visit by a vp candidate early in the campaign. Since the EC vote was not in play, they saw no reason to be here.

I've always been an Independent who leans to the Dems in Presedential elections. In a state so overwhelmingly Rep, my vote does not count for squat. The majority here elects our senators, as it should be, they represent the state. The same holds for our elections in districts for Representatives. But I don't like that the majority of the state determines whether or not my vote for President matters.

With elections so close now, the more that each individual vote counts, the more each would be sought. And honored.
