Ted,

no voter card should be so difficult that it requires further instruction outside the ballot box.

Theoretically, I agree, but practically, there may be 100 ways to do things. The reason they had it that way was to make it "easier" on seniors with large type. Again, there are number of ways people can interpret "easier"

For example, in NYC, we have voting machines, with a fixed area and number of possible levers. Placing of major candidates is fairly straight forward, in coolumns. But the proliferation of parties is challenging the layout. Some columns end up being shared, there may be half columns.

Then we have ballot questions regularly. These end up almost hidden in the corner and most people ignore them. The totals of the questions is way way below the number of votes cast.

I personally (and my wife) read the paper ballot before going to the voting booth, just to read the text of the proposition, just to understand it. Most people don't take the time.

Is is fraud? You tell me. If you care, you get it right. If you don't you may miss things.

Joe

We have a difference of opinion. This is not that difficult:

Why is it assumed that only Dems screwed up and voted for Buchanan? Why couldn't a Republican punch out Buchanan's hole by mistake? The hole is on the line between both.

People who can not solve this or won't ask for help, shouldn't be determining the fate of our country. That includes Republican voters intending to vote for Bush.

The 19K ballots were tossed because they had multiple punch-outs for the candidates. The voters should have asked for help at the time they screwed up, not after they found out that Gore lost! A revote would be an election irregularity.

In 1996, 15K double punched ballots were tossed out. There were no complaints then about disenfranchisement.
