Hi Chris:

Since I don't want to look @ my port today I'll interject a little. Once a ballot is cast its cast. Its my understanding the voters didn't realize they might have made a mistake until after they voted and were talking with other voters. Some were not sure if they had made a mistake (obviously from the count we can see mistakes were made).

If the attorneys pursue this I don't see a high probability of it being over turned but who knows.

We'll we can agree it is a mess. I thought CT was behind the times with mechanical booths.

Tim

Chris, I think it is a good idea to reduce one's cynicism. If I go to vote and vote for my candidate and put the ballot into the box and then go back crying that I punched twice, I could vote for my candidate twice. Once you put the ballot in, you are done!

Chris...
<<there is too much hanky panky on the table, especially if people who voted and tried to get a NEW ballot were REFUSED then we have even more serious stuff that is not POST election.>>

In a mature democracy and grown up people a ballot paper READING ERROR designed by a registered democrat and a supporter of Gore in Palm Beach county will not stand the test of 'equity'. A ballot is a ballot, if it is wrongly casted it wrongly casted, the individuals who have been refused a ballot paper can mount a challenge and hte guy who refused them may need to go to jail, however to take the entire nation ransom is wrong, morally and on basis of justice, these guys should know how to vote for their candidate, to say these 3000 votes would be all Gore's not Buchanan is polticising the process, yes it is glaring error but not a deliberate one, if re-elections are allowed in one county I would think their should be national re-election. The election has been so close that a 'democratic cluster' (that has the benefit if hindsight) re-election would jeopardise the entire results.

Out of the total registered voters only 100 million have voted, if you allow a re-election in Palm Beach the vested interest and stakes would make sure that dead are pull out of the graves to vote, if Palm beach gets the second right why to deny that to the entire US where those out of the 100 million who have not voted may go out an vote I assure you that results may be very different the whole concept of popular vote is based on a winner out of votes properly casted on a given day. This whole issue of dis-enfrnachisment and lack of popular will is nonsense, out of 250m plus US popualtion only 48 million have voted for Gore or Bush none of htem are popular leaders, they only represent will of less than 20% of the population, should the lobby that does not vote commence legal war that due to nature of their mandate they should have no right to be the President, an argument can be made why should someone less than 20% be the occupant of hte White House? This absurd logic will expose Gore and his iabilities, Bush has so far conducted well, if re-count and postal ballot makes him a minority even with one vote he should accept the result and concede to Gore otherwise he for me is hte President elect, rest everything else would not stand the test of logic and conventional wisdom.. Theses processions and Jesse speaches are good politics but bad precedent. This thing will put the whole concept of election on a fixed day with certain establish rules in doubt. You got to play by the rules. The DNC is not at the moment playing by the book.

A lot of people seem to be missing the fact that the recount showed that the errors made were about 75% in Bush's favor.
