I think you have to love politics. I do-as well as history, of course. While I would have preferred a landslide for my own preferred candidate, I think that situations like this and the recently completed impeachment process eventually highlight the absolute genius of the system of government that was created in 1792 by the Founders. No other country, even those who have considered themselves civilized for 2 or more millennia, could transfer power in a situation like this without gross instability or even violence-which you will NOT see here.

The next president, whether Bush or Gore, will be president in fact. And like any president before him, his legacy will be determined by events subsequent to this election, and shaped by his vision, and personal ability to influence those events.
