Scumbria,

re: Why do you say that Gore did anything wrong? Is he obligated to roll over and die because CNN jumped the gun Tuesday night?

Mr. Gore should have stayed home in Washington, instead of sending teams of lawyers (and Jessie Jackson) down to Florida. Instead of injecting himself into an ongoing process, he should have let the process run it's course.

Now he's talking about supporting lawsuits, which is the functional equivalent of encouraging lawsuits. If the ballot in Palm Beach is unfair or illegal, HE is not the aggrieved party. The voters will be ruled to have been deprived of their right to vote. Palm Beach county and the state of Florida owe nothing to Mr. Gore or Mr. Bush.

Both should respectfully bow out of the process until Florida certifies an election result. Then the loser should concede and the winner become President elect. To try to influence the process is to disrespect the rule of law, to encourage polarization between the people and the parties, and is bringing the country closer to a constitutional confrontation, the same constitution one of them will have to swear to "defend and protect" in a couple of months.
