TP,

This is my last post on this matter - I don't want to go down this rat hole any further.... After careful consideration last night I have decided that the prudent thing for Gore to do would be to call the troops off. Stop the re-counting and concede the election. I think he needs to be a statesmen and walk away and take confort in the fact that he won the popular vote and perhaps even Florida but in the end demonstrate to the American people that he is a worthly leader by conceding and allowing the country to move forward.

That said; WRT to the 20,000 votes that were tossed. The thinking is "what's the problem? They tossed them last time and no one cared." "So why should anyone care this time"...

I have two feelings on this. First, if they tossed them last time why didn't they fix the balloting so that they didn't have the issue again... it would seem that if they knew there was an issue and didn't fix it then there is legal problem. I'd also like to take a minute to address some questions on the thread about the ballot because I like everyone here can't comprehend how anyone can screw this thing up. I saw the ballot and it looks straight forward. But, remember the holes are recesed and when you look at the ballot on an angle the holes are not aligned with the arrows. I think this is the arguement. In other words you can't compare what the ballot looks like printed in your hand and what it looked like in the ballot machine.

Second, last time no one put up a major stink becuase the 15,000 votes that were tossed didn't matter.. they would not have had a material affect on the election. Well, it would appear that this time they do. So taking the position that we shouldn't care seems like akin to sweeping dogshit under the rug and pretending it's gone.

Now, final comment - to mph. I did hear a report on CNN last night that many votes had expressed confusion over that ballot in the afternoon on election day. The election office has these written complaints (Jesse Jackson produced one on the air).. and there was nothing done to clarify the matter. Furthermore there were also a number of instances of double punching where the voter had to get a new ballot... double punching because the holes didn't line up. These were only noticed by those voters that checked their ballots apparently. I don't check mine when I pull it out of the machine.... do you?

All said... Gore should concede.
