The idea that hand counting ballots is some kind of "Gold Standard" and will give you a more accurate count is laughable.

The Gore campaign announced that it would seek further reviews, in the form of hand counts in four populous pro-Gore counties, and that it might launch lawsuits too. The call for as careful a count as possible in an election as close as this, with so much a stake, seems unobjectionable to us;
