<<Yeah, I think the results need to be silenced until everyone has voted. Total blackout.>> The problem is that the courts have said that if the government attempts to prohibit this, it violates the First Amendment. After this election, maybe they reconsider. Until then, it's up to the news folks to show more restraint, and maybe in the future they will. On election day, I think Drudge was the only one releasing exit polling hours before the polls closed.

If You Can Read This, You Must Be a Republican
West Palm Beach abuzz with lively chants for Bush, Gore

By DICK HOGAN, The News-Press

WEST PALM BEACH — With protesters on all four corners, the
downtown intersection of Olive and Third streets was the political place to
be Thursday afternoon — ground zero for the bitter fight over what
happens next.

“We want Gore,” about a hundred of
the vice president’s partisans chanted
on two of the corners. “Re-vote,
re-vote, re-vote.”

On the other two corners the Bush
people — outnumbered about 3-1 —
were more subdued but no less sure of
themselves. “If You Can Read This,
You Must Be a Republican,” read one
sign. “Gore, Milosevic What’s The
Difference” read another.

I agree but then we run up against freedom on speech rights. States would probably need to withhold results until all precincts are counted. How do we muzzle the exit pollsters?
