Nixon had good reason in '60. he was actually urged by his campaign people to press the matter further, as there were pretty clear indications of fraud...he then decided to bow out "for the good of the country" in spite of the chance of possibly successfully challenging the results. obviously this was before he embarked on becoming a crook...
