But Q owns snaptrack, but you may be right, q could license its technology to others.

Dave, Yes, another ASIC manufacturer could incorporate SnapTrack in their chip under license from Q(SpinCo), but the following would result:

A) The ASIC would be even more difficult, remembering nobody seems to be able to get it right to start with.
B) A royalty due to Q(SpinCo) would increase the cost.
C) The competitor's ASIC would forever be behind future upgrades to SnapTrack.
D) Unless they plan to produce multiple versions of their chips, even ASICs destined to non-SnapTrack customers may generate a royalty to Q, depending on the license agreement.
