OT: last night David Letterman- Cokie Roberts (noted political guru)- her answer to David's question- 'what's gonna happen??' 'one of the candidates will win once the recount is complete, and the other will have to concede... the only new aspect is that before all this arose, one of the candidates would have had to go away and we would have only been stuck with the one elected to office. now, the one that concedes will still be sticking around complaining about the office that was stolen from him, and neither will go away...' LOL! i'll bet we are wishing we had never heard of gore or bush at this point....

Zeev, John, I think that only that county (palm Beach?) had a ballot that was "confusing" to 20,000 voters. You actually have no idea how many voters were "confused" in Florida or across the nation. No one does. I've decided I hope Gore wins, just to keep the government "balanced", but I'm against any ridiculous suggestions of holding another election, apportioning votes, et cetera. Fortunately or unfortunately, we can't open that can of worms. Otherwise every voting district in the country will face lawsuits by individuals claiming that their voters were mislead or confused, for some fluky reason or another. Again, since they punched two holes, the Palm Beach voters were apparently not misled enough that they didn't realize they had voted for the wrong candidate. They should be embarrassed, though, that they aren't savvy enough to know that we're each only allowed to vote for one candidate for president. If you make a mistake, you make a mistake and you have to live with the consequences. Everyone had plenty of time to look at the ballot ahead of time and figure it out. Dave p.s. The Republicans may want Gore to conceed now because CNN also reported recently that in the 1996 election, the election night results had Clinton winning by something like 7.7M votes, but after the absentee ballots were counted, the margin was increased to 8.3M votes. They may be worried that the majority may, in fact, come in for Gore and not Bush. Let's let the ballots be counted and move on.
