Barry, I believe that in 1960 if JFK had lost Illinois he still would have had 273 electoral votes, or enought to win. The other shoe was in Texas, where massive voter fraud was also alleged. If Nixon had tried to contest he needed both states overturned. LBJ's machine worked well too, in getting out the vote!

However, if he had truly raised the stink, who knows what might have "surfaced" in the court challenges. His refusal to do so was one of his finest hours...and he later ran and won the presidency even after losing the race for Governor of California. So, we did have him to kick around!!

Gore will certainly study his history on all of this. The noble high road at just the right moment will serve him well in the long run. (By the way, my sister, who voted for Bush, has already told me she feel Al should get her vote in four years...to be fair to him!!)
