The 'butterfly ballot' affected relatively few votes in percentage terms -- but there is no question that there was an effect, likely costing Gore at least a couple thousand votes. For some pretty rigorous analysis, go to madison.hss.cmu.edu and follow the links. -mb

mike, no comment on the post election rally call? you're gonna have to pay me more for the "straight man" gig. ;-)

either electee is going to smell bad, imho. hopefully that is a good thing as both have plans to bankrupt us. maybe they'll mellow a bit.

concede? not yet. let the votes fall where they may and go with the result. it won't happen, imho, no matter which way it goes.

hey, 60, 64... whatever. nothing pre skeeter matters anyway, right? ;-)

Mike,

A few thoughts on your points.

I agree completely that Gore should wait for the count of absentee ballots before conceding.

I definitely don't think there should be manual counts of "specific" counties. In fact I don't think there should manual counts at all. Florida law calls for a recount and it is being done. End of story!

Out of the 19,000 ballots that were trashed, many did vote again. The stories being reported are FALSE. I have friends in Florida who are closer to the situation.

If the count goes for BUSH, the Gore people should congratulate him and walk away instead of going to court and trying to damage his presidency and/or the country. The process issues should be addressed, but there are no solutions. When people that are borderline senile, on medication, homeless due to drug abuse, and lack education are encouraged to vote - mistakes will be made. Every vote counts, but there is an ethical boundry that shouldn't be crossed. When those that are voting can't understand what's in their best interest, they shouldn't be coached or coaxed into voting. Nor should you complain when they screw up. My 5 year old niece filled out the ballot correctly when asked.

I saw Lennox Lewis last week in a public workout at Grand Central Station. His arms are like thighs. His thighs are like tree trucks. His shoulders and chest are ripped. But those aren't his best attributes. The man is an incredible athlete. I was amazed at how quick and graceful he is. Tua has zero chance unless he lands a lucky left hook.

I didn't vote for either Bush or Gore, but I can live with Bush. He may not be the brightest bulb, but I believe that he is a very decent man. I can only hope he is little brighter than the media gives him credit for. I do know enough about Gore. He is a piece of shit - as are Carville and Begala. (ng)
