i know a friend fired from his job for not disclosing the same on a job application.

currently resident aliens with similar offenses are being deported no matter how far in the past the offense occurred.

so it actually is very much an issue of disclosure for everyone else.

why not for the presidency?

amazing how each side is so selective with its forgiveness
or accusations.

>>>But for the disclosures of his record we still would not know of this impropriety on the part of someone who would be President. <<

"Everyone is probably imperfect by some measure"

You can take the word "probably" out.

"It is how we handle our imperfections that distinguishes us."

I thought he handled it well. Didn't want to set a bad example for his kids, decided to keep it discreet. His kids were born about 6 years later, I believe. By your statement, I assume you feel he should have handled it differently. There are lots of ways to handle this, and I'm not suggesting there is no other way, but his was legit, imo. You would obviously handle it differently, but his circumstances are not yours.

"Bush, by his actions of drinking and driving incurred great potential risk to others by virtue of his impairment"

I believe his bac was .1%. That is about 2 1/2 beers for someone his size. Don't want to belittle drinking and driving, but on a country road, driving slowly (that's why he was pulled over) you exagerate by saying "great potential risk".

"But for the disclosures of his record we still would not know of this impropriety"

That's the way he wanted it. What he did 24 years ago was one example of behavior that lead him to quit drinking 14 years ago. Were you unaware that he had quit drinking, and that he admitted that he had indiscretions in his youth? Why do you need to know every detail (down to a misdemeaner (sp) 24 years ago). BTW, if he was running for pres 24 years ago, I would agree that this could be relevant.

"Yet you would blame the messenger and in some sense absolve GW of this very poor judgment of his."

I do blame the messenger. Sounds like a tattle tail jerk to me. I also think "very poor judgement" is very extreme. Generalizations can be dangerous, but I would bet that nearly every person in congress and the senate has driven a car at .1% bac at some point in their life. Not sure if you are a Ted Kennedy fan, but he got drunk, crashed his car, KILLED someone, saved his own ass without trying to help the victim, then ran to his family, who I believe paid the victim's family so they wouldn' throw his sorry, manslaughtering ass in jail. That was VERY POOR judgement. And I know, he didn't win the presidency. Big deal. He should have been jailed with a FELONY on his record.

I would bet my house that Bill C. has driven a car at over .1%. He was elected twice. Showed his character time and again before and during office, and dems LOVE him. Makes me sad to be an American (at times).

Your arguments are well presented, by the way. Just seems like a really, really small item to use to eliminate a potential presidential candidate. Really small.
