Jill, Did the voters receive a new ballot when they requested a new one?

I agree, the courts will want to stay away, but they will be forced to at least review the cases, or deem them without merit out of hand. I would expect the process to proceed rather quickly however, as we all want a just and final resolution...

Regarding FUD, I keep thinking how important it would be to me to ensure my vote was counted and recorded accurately. Some of these older people must surely have relatives that fought and died to preserve our democracy. Can you imagine how they feel right about now?

UPDATE: latest NM vote tally =

gush -- 285,764
bore -- 285,747

gush takes NM by 17 votes

however, they are saying that there are UP TO as many as 189 "in lieu of" votes remaining to be counted.

they defined "in lieu of" votes as those cast by voters who had requested an absentee ballot but did not use it and instead appeared at the polling location and voted in person. when this occurs, the voter must sign an affidavit declaring that they DID NOT use the absentee ballot. why those have not yet been counted, i do not know. when they will be counted, i do not know.

we are experiencing technical difficulties

I, too, have heard elsewhere that many of those 19,000 were thrown because replacements had been requested. For some unexplained reason, it gets mentioned in passing and gets lost in the FUD shuffle.

There's a discrepancy between the precinct totals and the county total which has not been explained.

Now that the hand recount is about to occur, all sorts of subjective decisions will enter the mix. The machines at least are objective.

our imperfect voting system enables succession of power

amazing how fragile our system is

even more amazing is how much imperfection we tolerate

we must tolerate
but we can improve the imperfections with some cheap technology
