Nothing new going on here, disgusting yes! The "chad" story has a past....

here's a relevant story from Oct.14,1996

thenewamerican.com

I would be very curious to see how many virgin uncast punch cards would pass the manual recount test as to votes for Al Gore? Then shaken and even ran through counting machines 3 times would loosen and dislodge chads? I think a test is required....lets start with 20,000 brand new cards and see how many votes the candidates get. curious?

Morning Jim, IKe and all...

Markets are tearing people apart here week after week...

while people are continuously trying to call a bottom???, it has not occurred...not by a long shot...

i have been daytrading, with no thoughts of investing here..i will not place one cent into these markets under the current senario...

what senario???...well obviously there's a major slowing of this economy and world wide economies are suffering as well...with OIL still above $30, and empl and wages still very tight...

after a stellar last 2-3 years of uncontested growth...we are moving into a bear market time frame that has no clear cut end as yet...it will end...but who knows where and when...

there is no way these corp's can beat last years numbers...not a chance...Y-O-Y, and now sequentially Quarter over Quarter will be less than anticipated till the cycle plays out here and the FED intervenes...it won't happen for months...the street is currently discounting this shortfall of pe,s and slow growth...

I was very surprised at the last GDP # at 2.7%..it plunged very quickly down from 5.6%...can it go lower???, that would be very negative to the markets going forward...

i see nothing on the immediate horizon that makes me want to dive in with both barrels...

i looked at the DOW-NAZ-NDX-SOX-QQQ etc etc...

we are going lower first, and we should continue to sell all rallies...

DOW DOWNSIDE TARGETS ARE 10,300 FIRST THEN A TEST OF THE LOWS AT 9700..

NAZ--AT CRITICAL SUPPORT BACK TO APRIL LOWS, MY DOWNSIDE TARGET IS 2450..THE 200 SMA ON THE WEEKLY CHART...

NDX--ALREADY CRACKED THE HARD SUPPORT AT 3000, 2600 IS NEXT...

so all in all....while people continue to buy these rallies they are now underwater once again...selling at the lows...losing more money every week...

i have been busy daytrading for 3-4 months now...it's been a godsend to me and others....while i do not suggest it's for everyone...at least we all sleep at night being in cash at the end of the day..it's truly calming work...

if one takes a small portion of their investing capital, 10-20%, and tries to re capture lost funds, doing this, it makes all the sense in the world to give a try..what the hell???

start slowly, trading 100-500 share lots, and scalp and play hit and run each day to make a living, and to replenish your major losses this year...you cannot afford to just do nothing...

and if it doesn't work??? then so be it...if you can't do it..ok, nothing ventured nothing gained...

i have suggested to many cyber friends that have e-mailed me or pm'd me, about these devistating losses..to sell all those dogs, and raise cash...use a portion of it to trade the markets for a living...what the heck folks...

it's really not that hard...trade the stocks you know and understand....there are many excellent sources to help you, if you chose to try this...

anyway..it works for me and many many others...and i am not trying to promote my real time room..go use anyone thats worth while...or do it your self, after taking some classes, or attending a good seminar...you cannot afford to take these losses any longer...it's crazy...

well i've said enough..

i wish everyone well who post and lurk on this wonderful thread...i said to Ike many moons ago, this "Market does not feel the same to me"...well the proof is in the pudding...

best regards to you all, and please watch your money...

OJ

Dear Jim: I would hope that you are correct and we indeed arrive at a resolution in the short term. However, considering all the indications the Gore/Lieberman camp have given it would be my guess that they would keep challenging any outcome other than their win.
There are a multitude of remedies that can be claimed by either party in the spirit of fairness. Surely, a recount should not be limited to primarily democratic counties. This would open the compass to new state or national elections, which would be a subvertion of the constitution.
In the short term, I expect the market to suffer at the expense of this uncertainty. How long can it be before the nation's sentiment follows? In the end, there is the real sad possibility that we may end up with a President by default, and that it may very well be the person who is most willing to drag our democracy through the mud for the sake of winning.
Regards,
mc2

This recount monster is taking new turn every day or every minute.

Here is something from a post on MSFT tread.

-Nat
---------------------------------------------------
Before you accuse Gore's party of "disingenous double-speak" you should read the following.

They just completed a hand count of 379 ballots in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and Bush now leads in New Mexico by four votes.
That state is worth five electoral votes.

Here's the kicker... John Dendahl, chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party, "said today that he found no inconsistency in policies
toward hand counting in Florida and New Mexico. 'In Florida,' he said, 'there were no allegations that voting machines were unable to
read ballots. Here, ballots are designed to be machine readable, but if they can't be and we didn't hand count the votes, those voters
would be disenfranchised from the process.' "

See <http://www.nytimes.com/2000/11/12/politics/12RESU.html>.
Free registration required.

But of course, that's exactly what the problem is in Florida. They are doing a hand recount of those ballots that were
incorrectly read by the machine.

This national election has been a joke. The New Mexico election was handled even less professionally than the Florida one. In New
Mexico county officials actually "found" 67,000 absentee and early ballots by late Wednesday.

After tabulating those 67,000 ballots, Gore was still in the lead. But by Friday, they had found 257 more votes. Get this:

"As county officials began reviewing the 257 found ballots, which produced 152 votes for Mr. Bush and 97 for Mr. Gore, Judy
Woodard, the Bernalillo County clerk, said the rejected ballots would not be counted in the state totals.

"Minutes later, she told reporters they would be. About five hours later they produced a net gain of 81 votes that helped Mr. Bush move
closer to claiming another state in the attenuated struggle for the presidency."

What the hell? And these same Republicans are complaining about Florida? Obviously the vote-counting system "needs fixed," as they
say in Bush's state. Any state whose results might be changed from one candidate to another by counting and recounting until they get it
right, owes it to Democracy to do so! If that means that Bush wins, or that Gore wins, so be it, but it would be a absurd not to at least
try to get it right!

Dave
