OT OT OT weekend stuff,

I am neither a democrat or republican, although I do have strong political beliefs. I don't like any of the choices we had for president this year. I agree with Nader that there isn't much difference between the two major parties. I think the results of the election demonstrates their sameness. I am enjoying all the fun down in Florida.

What I don't enjoy is the absolute hatred demonstrated on this thread. The most civil of posters turn mean when discussing the election.

The Gore camp shouldn't have mentioned legal action, certainly not before the count was final and certified.
The Bush camp shouldn't have assumed victory and started putting together a transition team and cabinet members.

As far as the hand recount is concerned, why not? There were significant differences between the original count and the recount. Obviously the machines aren't perfect. The suggestion that a hand count invites fraud is ridiculous. No one is touching those ballots without observers from both sides present, not to mention federal marshals. A hand count is more likely to reveal fraud than create it. I don't think a re-vote is a good idea, but I do think that every effort should be made to have an accurate count of the original ballots.

The effect on the market will be short lived. I know this won't be popular here, but I think a Gore win would probably be better for the market long term. The republican congress can control any excess spending by the Gore administration. Bush is locked into a tax cut which is bad for the economy. Please don't explain supply side to me, I watched it not work while building huge national debt. I think the best thing for the economy & the markets world wide is for us to pay down the national debt. JMO
