Nadine

Before the election.... Bush said that if he were to lose the electorate, and win the popular that he would consider continuing to campaign hoping to convince some states to change it's votes.. hmmmm..

I heard that and thought.. oh my god here we go. But now, he starts putting together a cabinet before thousands of absentee votes come in ,in a race separated by 300 votes. My goodness this high road seems to be a conveinient detour. I pretty much laugh at that high road thing anymore. Choosing Bush as a candidate, and hearing people say he will bring integrity back to the white house is just a tad too much. People are completely willing to overlook anything the man has done.. as are Democrats with their guys.. but difference is.. they don't claim to be on any stinkin high ground.

Also, I start to see why Bush was chosen. Can't believe it took me so long..lol Republicans face a monumental task getting one of their guys in there. In a country with a booming Democratic base, they needed an average Joe looking guy to have any hope of capturing enough votes to win.. hard core Republicans vote for anybody Republican. They needed someone you could look at and say.. hey I'm smarter than that guy, let's give him a chance. Politics suck..lol

Nadine,

I disagree about the manual counts.

I am sure you and I could easily count 1000 ballots correctly if we did it 2 or 3 times. But I suspect we would often make mistakes counting 10,000 once. We are talking about 6 million. Also, the hanky panky need not be intentional - although that is a possibility too. It can come from unintentional bias. There are already many ballots in the sample counts in progress that have been put aside for review. That means there will be different subjective standards around the state determining the outcome of that group. In terms of fairness, I would prefer a mildly faulty non-partisan machine that may skip 1000 votes out of the 6 million to subjective judgement.

I didn't hear any details about the Texas manual count law. I would be totally against the manual process unless their law doesn't allow an automated count prior to it.

I would be for one recount only and prefer it be automated.
If there is some inconsistency between what the Republicans want in Florida and what they have in Texas then I think the Republicans are goofballs.

Then I read that they called Florida 8 minutes before the polls closed.

Please post a link to what you read.

Nadine,

Tim Russert just reported that it is only "Democrats" that are doing the hand recount in at least one county. In cases where the ballot is not clear, they "are trying to read the mind of the voter". Enough said!

I am sure that the networks called Florida on the hour, no sooner than any other state. I was flipping back and forth and am sure of that because Drudge wasn't observing the VNS blackout, and had called Florida for Gore, so I was anxious. But what I don't remember is WHEN they called Florida - my recollection is that they called it at 7:00 Eastern, while the Panhandle polling closed at 7:00 Central.

Nadine, Florida has two time zones the pan handle had more than one hour to go I believe and it was a republican area. Sen Bob Dole pointed out that the media with held calling some southern states where Bush had the lead but called FL even though Bush was leading 51% to 47%. The media blames Voter News Service but I heard that CNN, CBS, NBC et. al own VNS. The media is full of it and biased against Bush. mike
