True he likely cannot now. But he chose the posturing tactic of not calling for recounts, so he could call for Gore to concede and rally around behind him. That didn't work. So he may be stuck. But that was how he chose to play the game.
Perhaps the Mets could have pitched their pitchers in a different rotation against the Yankees - and won the series as a result. But they didn't and they didn't.

1. When does the 72 hours start running? I thought I saw somebody said it's the LATER of a) the end of the election; or 2) the "certification" by each county of its votes. Have the counties "certified," yet, or do they have to wait until the absentees come in?

2. Why would the winner (Bush) have thought to ask for a recount?
