Scumbria:

"The risk of "damage to the next Presidency" is far less serious than the risk of failing to uphold Democracy. Sooner
or later, the election will be resolved, likely by the Supreme Court. This will be a great victory for the American
people, who will have been snapped out of 20 years of apathy and disinterest. Maybe we will actually try to
nominate some good candidates next election?"

Maybe, maybe not...It's a double edged sword...Some might question that the real motivations currently calling for recounts, although flown under the banner of upholding democracy, are really fueled by the selfish motivations of the partisan politicians...

"All the Democrats had to do was agree to the terms of the ridiculous injunction, and the Republicans were willing to drop it? Does that make any sense to you?"

Did, or should the Democrats respond to the Republican offer with a counter that clearly defined their terms of closure...or are they digging in for the currently undefined long haul (which takes the American public who knows where...not necessarily good though, imho) or victory, whichever comes first...

Scumbria Re..The risk of "damage to the next Presidency" is far less serious than the risk of failing to uphold Democracy.

That would be true only if you can define what you mean by "uphold democracy". In your case case I assume that means "Gore using whatever legal means possible wins the election". That may be fair to you, but not necessarily to most other people. There is a big difference between the law and justice nowadays.

This will be a great victory for the American people, who will have been snapped out of 20 years of apathy and disinterest. <<<<

Maybe not the next presidential election, but I would be willing to bet that by 2008 it will be disinterest as usual.

Maybe we will actually try to nominate some good candidates next election?

Yeah right, and maybe AMD will start going to the moon tomorrow. Until we change all of the negative campaigning, until we stop all of the compromise your values and start begging for your money type of campaigns, the only people who will want to run are people sleezy and dirty enough to run those types of campaigns. And then we wonder what happened when the Bills of the world start running amok. Bill is a product of the system, not the other way around.
