Two tier health care ... Which end of the health care waiting lists do members of Parliament in Ottawa join: The front or the back? When injuries are covered by Workman's Compensation, is treatment ever expedited? How come one never sees doctor's waiting to see specialists? Do patients who are willing to pay not travel to U.S. treatment centres? When the rich person in line in front of me jumps to an alternate line, do I not move forward? Just Sunday morning musing. Energy Minister Paul Dicks confirmed last week the province is no longer negotiating with Quebec as a partner on the mega-project. Instead, Quebec is a customer in a development that is radically different than what was originally proposed. That has been the case for at least five months, Dicks said when he outlined the smaller, $3.7-billion project that Newfoundland could do on its own, provided it had customers. Tobin sought a second mandate as premier to be the one to negotiate the Lower Churchill development, yet he did not inform the public the province no longer had a partner, Harris said. “I’m flabbergasted by the boldness of it,” said the NDP leader. “Maybe he thought it wasn’t going to become public until after the federal election.” In the absence of a deal with Quebec for the development of the Lower Churchill, the Guaranteed Winter Availability contract and Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corp.’s shareholders agreement signed with Hydro-Quebec in June 1999 should be made public, Harris said. The public should know what arrangements were made to recall power, and to procure the additional annual amount of money for the province, he said. “We need to know what arrangements have been made with Hydro- Quebec so that we know whether or not the failure of the project — being partnered with Hydro-Quebec — has further consequences for the long-term interest of Newfoundland and Labrador,” Harris said. “It’s very important now to know whether we gave up something further in terms of the availability to deal with the long-term contract for the Upper Churchill.” The Telegram filed a freedom of information request for the Guaranteed Winter Availability contract and Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corp.’s shareholders agreement earlier this year, but that request was denied on the basis the documents contain commercially sensitive information that could impair negotiations with Hydro-Quebec.

Hi PMW, That's what got them elected the first time. They were also going to 'renegotiate' free trade. I believe I'm sure I recall one soundbite where Chretien actually said if they couldn't negotiate they might cancel it !!!!!!! (Seems the Tories recall it too) Afterwords the GST would be too complicated to unwind. LOL. I personally doubt Chretien had any intention of 'canceling' the GST. It actually would have been a bonehead move as it replaced the inequitable manufacturers tax. IMHO he is a liar. Maybe if we play his speeches backwards they say SUCKERS SUCKERS SUCKERS SUCKERS I mean Proud Canadians...... LOL.
