Paul,

I never saw CNN predict that Gore won the US presidential election. I did see an online prediction that Gore had won Florida, back when the electoral totals were still in the low 100's.

I later saw CNN online predict Bush won the national election, then again later predict that it was too close to call. The next day, they then again briefly said that Bush won, and again backed away from it.

This seems to have left Bush and much of the voting public confused. The recounts would have happened without serious objection, if the networks hadn't been so eager to scoop the each other. Many people got the incorrect idea in their head that Bush won, and now they believe that Gore is trying to steal the election. The media did a huge disservice, and ultimately must take responsibility for the confusion.
