Several years ago, conservatives touted a statistic that more black kids were attending college than white kids, on the basis of percentage by race. Therefore, one would expect more blacks to vote Republican, based on the argument that the more affluent one becomes, the more likely one is to "conserve" what he or she has attained on the basis of education of education and hard work. Regardless of race. But that ain't happening -- if only 3 to 5 percent of black voters cast ballots for Bush-Cheney as opposed to Gore-Lieberman. How come? What is this underlying reason that Bush-Cheney received so little support among blacks? What is the basis of black distrust in mainstream white America? Bill Bradley tried to probe this question in the Demo primary, but to no avail, I'm sad to say. Race remains a serious problem in America. Outward discrimination has been replaced, by and large, with subtler forms of discrimination ... economic and otherwise. Re: "Every black conservative faces withering fire from libs" ... I will concur that non-acceptance of differing viewpoints occurs on the left just as it occurs on the right, and I condemn both. I saw Harold Bloom recently recount his difficult time while lecturing for a week at Stanford. He was attacked by the left for compiling a "Best World Literature" list that featured predominantly white male authors. He said the experience was so bad he will never lecture there again. Sad. I believe in the free exchange of ideas ... regardless ... and am opposed to any dilution of the First Amendment ... regardless. I don't support the KKK, but will defend their right to get out their message. Which is why I found it particularly offensive when certain posters on this Silicon Investor thread were told to "tone down," etc. But then again, SI can set up whatever rules it wishes. I don't believe it is strictly bound by the First Amendment.
