salon.com This link does not answer your question about how many ballots were actually trashed (whatever that means) but presumably 19K+ were invalated for over count with an additional 10K for under count not tabulated (a hypothetical, twice the number of 1996).

Also on p.2, interesting statement about St. Louis voters putting their ballot in backwards which would be machine unreadable but vote was allowed during manual recount. (Wonder if that is possible in ballot holding devise in FL, and if so, will the vote be permitted in manual recount???)

And on page 3, if true, interesting way of machine recounting in Columbia County, FL. <g>.
