Thanks for the explanation PW. Probably take me a while to absorb it. Interesting that what I did was a one way process! Haven't tried all my software yet but I suppose there are always upgrades that will work with 32 bit FAT. Going to 32 bit FAT has so far had an amazingly stabilizing effect on my computer in that GDI has yet to dip below 60% where before it was dropping to 30% and below (crash zone) with great regularity. Guess now I can postpone the W2k upgrade for another year. Awesome! Rick
