It appears that the Bush folks may have pulled a fantastic coup on this. They didn't ask for a manual recount in other counties since they did their
homework and knew of the Florida statutes which mandate the counties to have their votes submitted by 5:00PM Tuesday (tomorrow). Either Palm
Beach submits their count by then, or the votes from Palm Beach simply won't be counted toward the state vote.

Also, by filing the request for an injunction (which the Fed court denied), it would appear that they have removed the Federal Courts as an option for
the Gore folks to use to override the Florida statute.

Brilliant, eh?

"Are you saying Gore should not excercise his rights because the results would become unfavorable for your candidate?"

I am saying he is a nit-picking whiner that will do whatever is necesary to secure a win for himself. If he was concerned with fairness he would have asked for a re-count of the entire state by hand. You and I both KNOW he is not concerned with fairness. Your following statement makes my point very effectively:

"Because in this chess game Gore has made the superior moves"

That is what our national election process is for Gore and his supporters. A game. They have come out from the beginning with multiple strategies designed by their team of 75 lawyers to change the count in Gore's favor by any legalistic means possible. Bush has had to counter those moves because if you just sit there and act presidential the election will be stolen from him by the Gore/Daly/Christopher team.

The danger of turning what was a pretty strong process of electing a president into a "chess game" is that the cynicism that is so great in the country will be even greater. I believe Clinton's legacy will be that its ok to lie (even to judges) and cheat (on his wife at the very least) and Gore's will be that it is ok to steal (even a presidintial election). He'll also have the destinction of saying that if you lose, there is no need to act with dignity or class, just look for loopholes and excuses to get your way. After all, it is just a "chess game".
