I think Chris may be referring to the feeling that many decent Americans had at the time. We had seen Clarence Thomas "lynched" for making off color jokes to his coworker. Political Correctness was at its zenith. The argument could be made that President is the only CEO in the country that would not be summarily fired for his actions. With lawsuits from NOW and other women's organizations to follow. Especially after Clinton's finger-wagging episode and him telling his Cabinet to go out and lie for him. Many of us were somewhat put off with this behavior.

Imagine many conservatives surprise when not only were people not disgusted with him taking advantage of a starry eyed volunteer intern, but to see his popularity poll numbers soar.

In my opinion that was a big contributor to the divide we see in our country. And here we are.

I guess an act of perjury with a subsequent admission in the public forum of lying doesn't count. We'll have to see if Mr. Clinton is disbarred after leaving office.
