<Petz: maybe Morgan will be made in Fab 25 starting production in a month or two. Because of the aluminum interconnects, its max clock rate will be lower ... but its power consumption will be higher ..., even with smaller cache.>

That would indeed explain things :).

<EDIT - and as Chuck pointed out, the infrastructure for Palomino laptops will be 266 MHz bus and DDR, certainly no
DDR for low end Morgan laptops.>

I'm not sure I agree with you here. DDR should be pretty close in price to SDR once Q2 comes around. Plus DDR uses less power than SDR, making it ideal for use in mobile platforms.

<how does DDR lower power consumption, as I've heard Scumbria say?>

For one, it uses 2.5V, whereas SDR uses 3.3V. There may be other factors, but I believe this is the primary.

Question: how does DDR lower power consumption, as I've heard Scumbria say?

Primarily by operating on a lower core voltage. Since power is proportional to the V square, even halfing the voltage reduced the power by 4X.

John, Re..Speaking of Scumbria, did Intel hire him to fix the P4 IPC after he beat Paul in golf?

Scumbria on the other thread waxing wane about the glorious Democrats and their achievements. He has already tried to elevate Bill to sainthood.
