jhild, If he really wanted to play the Dem's underhanded game, don't you think that he would have ensured that his counties got equal time in a recount? there were better than 21k "tainted" ballots in his neck of the woods as well. tp

I am perfectly serious. I think you are mistaken. I do not think that it would be desirable to drag things out ad infinitum, and that that prospect was the stick with which Gore hoped to beat Bush, preventing a fair response to the challenges launched in Florida, by the fear of undermining confidence in the process. Bush has quite reasonably pointed out the danger with endless challenges, and sought closure, particularly given the preposterously interpretive nature of hand counting. It is no good to say that persons in the Bush campaign prepared memoranda on possible contingent challenges themselves, since one can never know if the candidate would have acted upon them. Bush's moral capital is fine........
