well, i doubt it was illegal. a ballot that has been used in Cook county for ages can't be illegal. it's simply being used by the losers as a means to get the election via the back door.

The legality of this particular ballot has nothing to do with a history of similar ballots in use for Cook Co., IL elections. <ggg>

The legitimacy of this butterfly ballot hinges on numerous issues: ordering and numbering of candidates, whether or not the copy actually published in the newspapers (and which papers) was what was presented to voters at the polls among others which include competing definitions of paper ballot v. other types. There are at least two laws suits related to one or more of the above issues.

I don't doubt that a hand recount will produce more Republican votes...but not nearly enough to offset Democratic votes gained...and Bush knows this. He will most likely lose this election with hand counts in Votmatic areas.

This is why the Bush camp sought the first injunction AND is seeking yet another injunction so I hear to stop a hand count as I type. Jeez...Cripes...

agree with you that the democrats seem to be the better organized force here...that doesn't make the ballot story of Palm Beach any less flimsy of an excuse. it's just been blown out of all proportion in their bid to gain a lead with whatever means necessary.

Nothing flimsy about the demand that your vote be counted...and the more Bush tries to stop hand counts the more he will look like _________ (fill in the blank.) Because it is becoming evident to anyone paying attention that a significant number of Votamatic area voters simply got screwed out of their vote for a variety of different reasons.

You know frankly, that Democratic supervisory clerk in Palm Beach did a marvelously stupid thing. I suspect that had she not botched-up that ballot (along with her Dem and Rep cohorts we would not be here at this point or at least this far along in the "process." It called attention to the problem with these kinds of ballots.
