PT: you state: "I think it's very likely, should Bush win after the four-county handcount recount is complete and Bush has the most votes, that Gore would graciously, for
the good of the nation, concede. After all, he is more of a statesman than is Bush."

I watched Gore's rep, Mr Daley, last night, when asked if they would concede in that situation, say they would have to think about it! He, nor, Mr Christopher, nor Mr Gore have answered "yes" to the pertinent question.

"I think it's very likely"

I am glad that you can be honest about the lack of certainty for anything when it comes to the Gore camp.

This would have made him a national hero, respected for all time by both Democrats and Republicans alike, virtually assuring he'd become president in the future, barring scandal.

This argument amazes me. First, why doesn't Gore concede and become the "hero"; because he wants to be President now, just as Bush does. Second, whoever loses this election is relegated to the political backburner for the rest of his life. The loser of this election will never be nominated for President again. Too much baggage from this election.
