BTW, this election shows why we do NOT want to do away with the electoral college. The national vote shows the candidates about 200,000 votes apart. That's about 2/10 of 1%. That's close enough to call for a recount in any state that has a mandatory recount, and to justify a call for a recount in every state where recounts are options. If this were a national election, the WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY would need to recount. Every ballot in every precinct in every state. Every ballot layout or design would have to be examined for possible bias. Every voting machine in use in every precinct would have to be examined for mechanical error. Every voter in every state would be subject to challenge as to whether they were truly a qualified voter. You think this election is lasting too long? Just wait until all 50 states are having to go through the whole thing. What a mess.

Chris, the implication that the examination or recount is not fair would be very insulting to the people who are taking this very seriously. The news has said over and over that there is a Rep and a Dem on the examination committees, but even if there wasn't I remind you that this country is mostly composed, above all else, of very fair-minded people who are sworn to do a fair and proper job. There are cameras, TV, Rep voters, Dem voters, reporters and all kinds of people in the room. It is totally open. I would love to have you call down or fly down and accuse these counters of cheating.
