Ron:

Another point about computers that doesn't show up in the stats is the fact that we have to replace perfectly good computers because they will not run new software. Since we bought our first computer mainly for word processing, I have been through several generations. It seems we have to replace them every 3 to 5 years. Not because they don't work any more, but because they become obsolete. The software that older computers run is not supported forcing upgrades. Also, I can't believe that the index is measuring accurately the cost of software. While the price of the software doesn't go up, we constantly have to upgrade in order to get support(which by the way used to be free but now we pay for. If you don't buy the new software, the companies simply say they no longer support the old version and you are left on your own for a solution. I don't know about others, but this is quite costly in my firm.

Live long and prosper,
