JDS Uniphase CEO Straus Reiterates FY01 Rev Guidance

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- JDS Uniphase Corp. (JDSU) Chief Executive Jozef Straus said Wednesday the
fiber optic component maker will see sequential revenue growth in the high teens during the current
second fiscal quarter.

The company reported $787 million in revenue during the first quarter of year 2001, a sequential
increase of 23%.

Straus told attendees at the UBS Warburg Global Telecom Conference here that JDS Uniphase
continues to increase capacity worldwide while adding automation to its manufacturing process.

Straus and Chief Financial Officer Tony Muller reiterated previous guidance, saying the company
expects year-over-year sales growth of 75% in the January quarter, 80% in the April quarter, 90%
in the July quarter, and 110% in the October quarter.

As for its acquisition of component maker SDL Inc. (SDLI), Mueller said the company's response
to a second Department of Justice request for information is proceeding and the deal is expected to
close next month.

Hey Dave, check out the post below. They seem to think like I do, that we'll see a rate cut by early Jan 2001.

If Greenie were to cut rates, I think that would be the jolt we need to get this market back on firm footing. The fundamentals are still there for the optical internet buildout, not to mention the wireless internet buildout. So if he does, we should see these stocks start to rise steadily again.

As far as the money supply, you are indeed correct. This is critical. Will they start buying back the Treasuries? I hope so. We need a money supply injection to increase liquidity. But the backdrop is scary. Like you said, wage inflation is real and oil is high. However, I am a firm believer that wage inflation is occurring due to productivity gains, which lead to improved profits and companies' abilitiy to pay higher wages. So is it inflationary? Maybe, but maybe not.
