I got the impression that they are saying that they are now less cyclical and will still show growth in a slowing market.

Again, they should continue growing. All they were concerned about was the economic downturn fears and may be pricing that into forecasts (just in case). The changing environment is taking away the cyclicality. Of course, there is still the barriers to entry issues with the semi equipments stocks. Consolodation can easily make these more profitable than they are now.

Most big growth stocks would have tanked with even a slight lowering of guidance going forward. AMAT is just too good of a deal right now. That is whyit is not selling off; not much was expected from them in the first place given all those downgrades of past days. Stock is near a 52 week low. I think it has bottomed out and moves higher from here.

This quote in the press release caught my attention.

"Since we are just at the beginning of the Information Age, we have tremendous growth opportunities ahead, as global demand for electronics products and the number of applications for semiconductors are both increasing. In the coming year, we expect our customers to increase their investment in advanced technologies for smaller line-widths, 300mm product capabilities and advanced materials applications. Our focus on providing a broad range of leading products, combined with strong operating capability and global support infrastructure, positions Applied Materials to benefit from worldwide demand for increasingly sophisticated electronics," concluded Morgan.
