I don't know, Craig. What part doesn't make sense? Why continue to litigate if you end up getting exactly what you were entitled to? I would rather have LEXR thrown to the mat with treble damages, but they weren't guaranteed.

The whole thing didn't make sense until I figured out what LEXR's sales were.

Craig, look at Lexar Media's revenues and then recall...

...that there is a 4% royalty payment that was negotiated.
The $8 million that will be paid to cover products sold
through March of 2001. Approximately 80% of Lexar Media's
total revenues are from products based on the infringing
controller technology. Thus, if Lexar does another $100
million in sales in 2000 Q4 and 2001 Q1 combined we are still
doing OK.

1998 [Q1-Q4] $ 7,609 (product revenues)
1999 [Q1-Q4] $29,219 (product revenues)
2000 [Q1-Q3] $71,790 (total revenues)

Hopefully the legal staff that earned all of these bucks
defending the SanDisk cause will spend some of that money
on digital cameras and CompactFlash this holiday.

Also, '987 is alive and well. Can you put a price tag on that?
